INSTALLATION & MIXED MEDIA
His monumental hexagonal moon sculpture at Villa Ciani (Lugano) is a striking example of this approach. Constructed from geometric modules, the installation reflects the harmony between nature, architecture, and human imagination. It invites the public to contemplate the moon not just as a celestial body, but as a mirror of our collective dreams and aspirations.
In American Flag, Catania revisits the iconography of the American banner, layering it with personal and political meaning. The artwork, created using analog photography, urban materials, and collage, speaks to themes of identity, displacement, and hope—rendered with powerful visual immediacy.
With VideoGame, presented at Volta Basel, the artist reimagines a retro arcade cabinet as a digital portal into his work. Merging gaming aesthetics with augmented content, the installation allows users to "play" their way through a curated selection of Catania’s artworks, offering an unexpected, participatory gallery experience.
Each of these projects reflects Catania’s unique capacity to create site-specific works that engage viewers on multiple levels—visually, intellectually, and emotionally—bridging the gap between analog roots and contemporary media.
