Current Project
A participatory public artwork commissioned by the City of Bellinzona, unfolding on the stairway that connects Via Molo to the Cinema Forum, beside the railway station. The work grows from night photographs of flowers taken in the park of Villa dei Cedri and in the artist's own garden in Rovio, then reassembled as a hand cut paste-up installation. Residents of every age are invited to build the work alongside the artist.

Roots in the Cosmos: The Female Astronaut as a Bridge Between Nature and Technology
In Yuri Catania's works, the figure of the astronaut sheds its cold scientific shell to become a powerful metaphor for the human condition. The astronaut is the ultimate explorer, the symbol of humanity's technological drive toward the unknown and our endless striving for the future. However, in this artistic universe, space travelers are exclusively women.
By choosing the female figure, and specifically the theme of motherhood, the artist creates a perfect synthesis between the origin of life and the pinnacle of human ingenuity. His "Astro Girls" and "Spatial Maternities"—represented in both painting and sculpture—do not float in the sidereal void but are enveloped in lush nature, a floral explosion that tenaciously anchors them to the Earth.
The message behind these works is an invitation to deeply reflect on the relationship between humanity, technology, and nature. The spacesuit and reflective helmets embody technology and progress, while the surrounding nature and the maternal womb represent our biological essence and our roots. Catania suggests that exploration and technological advancement must not result in alienation from our natural world. On the contrary, the female astronaut becomes the vital bridge uniting these two extremes.
Whether illuminated by daylight or revealed by the mysterious nocturnal glow of UV rays, Yuri Catania's pioneers remind us that no matter how far technology pushes us into the universe, the future of our species will always depend on our ability to carry with us, among the stars, the respect and memory of the natural womb from which we came.
